AFTER THE STONE AGE, THE BRONZE AGE, AND THE IRON AGE – THIS IS THE AGE OF RARE EARTH…
To finish off the grand opening of Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary´s most ambitious thematic exhibition Rare Earth with a thunderous roar, we have invited a sumptuous musical and visual line-up to set the stage and turn table on fire.
MUSIC LINE-UP
Ping Pong Titties (Berlin/ Vienna)
Since their Balkan Tour in 2012, the diva-duo of Jeana Paraschiva and Franzis Mahmoud-Zahl have been traveling the world with their MP3 collection. With their so-called ‘desert mix’ of Hip-Hop, Ghetto Tech, Disco, and Electro, they transform art and film events, weddings, and night clubs into an extravaganza of wild parties. Their music is both ‘trash’ and ‘glam’. Don’t be shy! Shake your ass! As long as you dance, we are not dead!
Gum Takes Tooth – LIVE! (London)
Two man everything machine endlessly seeking what-the-fuck aural mesmerism in a maze like arrangement of physically overwhelming rituals of sound system culture, riffs and pan-cultural psychedelics. Each member focusing intently on unmediated rhythmic interaction between crowd and performer, directing the energy towards unexplored altered states.Dark primal frequencies are felt and not heard, unremitting circular drums shatter and rebirth whilst a cast of vocal characters provide an astral guide through these dizzying manipulations.
According to Aquarius, their new Album Mirror Fold is
“A totally twisted genius… deftly shaped into something at once warped and weird, wild and experimental, but also totally hypnotic, and melodic, strangely lovely and in its own way, extremely catchy. A new favorite for sure. And a total shoe-in not just for Record Of The Week, but for our year end best of´s too”
Candie Hank (Berlin)
Candie Hank (the mischievous alter ego of Patric Catani) has been messing up the musical landscape from Tokyo to Sao Paolo for some time now. In his twenty years career he produced around 90 LPs for different projects and bands, including production and (re)mix work for Ill Till & Xberg Dhirty6 Cru, Puppetmastaz, Fraktus, Driver&Driver, Bonaparte, Angie Reed, Chilly Gonzales, and released on labels like Wordsound, Grand Royal (USA), Shitkatapult, Sonig, Mille Plateux, Gagarin Records and Beat Ink (Japan).
In the age of 16 he released his first record produced on the Amiga 500 computer under the name E de Cologne. Still living the annoying life of a frustrated teenager he woke up by the attention he got for his live sets. He came to the decision to travel the world and use his music skills to escape the unpleasant, boring concrete no-vision which Cologne had to offer him. Releasing a few records on the Cologne based label Monotone, Titanium Steel and Fischkopf from Hamburg, he quickly got reputation all over the place and moved on from Rave to Rave with his two Amigas in a sports bag.
A cinematic, confronting journey through the eras of forgotten futurist lounge and Beat – He´s using the symbols of our darwinist pop society and the typical male stereotype character role model to appreciatively take it apart and dismantle the dictated, risk free attitude of the “New APP Order”. Hanks anarchistic approach taking and modifying statements in a plunderphonic way but giving it the spice and soul of Moog synths, 8Bit Roughness and the surreal twist of a Daniil Charms worshipping sample eating Bassmonster. Of course always in honour of Morricone, Rock Hunter, Hazil Adkins and the Euromasters.
