Kamasi Washington am 8. July 2025 @ Globe Wien.

Kamasi Washington is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and bandleader born and raised in Los Angeles. His three major works to date—The Epic; Harmony of Difference, an EP originally commissioned for the 2017 Whitney Biennial; and Heaven and Earth—are among the most acclaimed of the 21st century.

His short film As Told To G/D Thyself, a companion to Heaven and Earth, premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival to widespread acclaim.

In 2020, Washington composed the score for the Michelle Obama documentary Becoming, earning both Emmy and Grammy nominations. That same year, he co-founded the supergroup Dinner Party with longtime friends and collaborators Terrace Martin, Robert Glasper, and 9th Wonder. Their follow-up EP, Dinner Party (Dessert), was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Progressive R&B Album.

In 2021, Washington contributed a cover of Metallica’s “My Friend of Misery” to the Metallica Blacklist covers project.

Having toured extensively around the globe, Washington has collaborated and shared the stage with a wide array of artists, including Kendrick Lamar, Florence + the Machine, and Herbie Hancock—whom he joins as co-curator of the Hollywood Bowl Jazz Festival for the second consecutive year.

Washington’s new album, Fearless Movement—inspired by dance and the birth of his first daughter—releases May 3rd on Young.
