Moving from Ohio to Bavaria’s countryside? That’s not the typical route for a rockband to go. Simeon Soul Charger, however, went down that road–courageously and successfully. The band’s third album, A Trick of Light, now impressively shows that these four Americans do not think much of conventional approaches altogether.

Whereas the hot summer of 2011 drew nearly everyone to the local beach or bar, snipping colourful cocktails, four dudes spent their leisure time at an old dirty practice room, drinking beer and trying to figure out what the heart of every band is; riffs, riffs and yes, even more riffs. Not restricting themselves to any kind of genre, they shamlessly draw influences from your mum‘s lovely hippie bands of the 70s, to classic desert-driven Stoner-Rock, over to deep doom and fuzzy Sludge Riffs. Sativa Root play instrumental music, covering the full range between heavy discordant parts and soft melodic passages. Sativa Root shared the stage with bands like: Kylesa, Red Fang, Planet Of Zeus, Dopethrone, Weedeater, Elder, Mos Generator, Black Tusk, Naam, Brant Bjork, Elder, Horisont, Vidunder and others.

As to their name, Monsters Of The Ordinary perform the gentle art of understatement, because ordinary usually sounds different: the four Vienna-based musicians thunder a thrilling mix of stoner rock, blues rock and psychedelic rock at us, carried by a – naturally monstrous – voice of orchestral range. Straight but epic, strange but catchy, striking far away from metal clichés.
