Acclaimed Brighton rock trio YONAKA today unleash their propulsive new single, ‘Hit Me When I’m Sore’. The track offers the latest thrilling glimpse into their eagerly anticipated second studio album, ‘Until You’re Satisfied’, which is set for release on March 13th via Distiller Records. Following their emphatic return, marked by recent singles ‘Cruel’ and ‘Problems’, ‘Hit Me When I’m Sore’ further showcases a band brimming with renewed confidence as bandmates Theresa Jarvis (vocals), George Edwards (guitar) and Alex Crosby (bass) prepare to open for DON BROCO on their UK tour in December. ‘Until You’re Satisfied’ marks the beginning of an exhilarating new chapter for YONAKA, whose journey as a band took them to the brink before returning with a powerful resurgence. The turbo-charged 13-track album was produced by Alex Crosby and Dimitri Tikovoi (Placebo, The Libertines).

Speaking about new single ‘Hit Me When I’m Sore’, Theresa Jarvis says, “Hit me when I’m sore is about being hurt but when you know how it feels, then it can sting but it doesn’t break you.”

Returning in September with comeback single ‘Problems’, YONAKA drew widespread plaudits with KERRANG! celebrating their “emphatic return”, NME heralding it a “visceral comeback” and ROCKSOUND calling it a “triumphant introduction to the trio’s next chapter”. It opened the door for the lyrical themes of the new album; the first time Theresa Jarvis has ever steered YONAKA through matters of the heart. “This record’s about love but it’s not all gooey – it’s the dirty bits and the harsh bits that happen to everyone whether you admit it or not,” she says.

YONAKA’s acclaimed 2019 debut album, ‘Don’t Wait Til Tomorrow’, with its heavy sonics and cathartic lyrics digging into Theresa Jarvis’ anxious psyche, saw them emerge with a legion of committed fans. They followed it up with mixtape ‘Seize The Power’, which to date has amassed over 200 million streams and earned them a global no.1 on the Shazam chart. These releases, along with their 2023 EP ‘Welcome To My House’, solidified YONAKA’s reputation as one of the most exciting and successful rock bands to emerge in recent years. However, behind the scenes, the footing of the group was feeling less certain.

“Being in a band for that long, you grow up together and you’re making all these changes and you get to a point where you question if you’re still in the right place,” says Theresa. “We’ve now been together for 10 years, and you go through so many different feelings in that time: you’re each other’s world, and then you don’t like each other, and then you love each other again. We really went through it. But when you finally air your problems and think about them properly, you realise you’re not ready to stop.”

Nearing the edge of the precipice for YONAKA changed their trajectory entirely. Realising what they were close to losing made the three old friends knuckle down and really fight not only for their band, but for the sound and the energy and the excitement that they’ve always wanted to bring to it. “Since then, it’s almost been like we’ve found each other again, and we’ve found the storyline and the music,” Theresa says, “and I don’t think this record now would have come without it.”

‘Until You’re Satisfied’, then, is YONAKA’s joyful reclamation of themselves, wrestled from the brink and pushed into its truest form yet. Satisfaction guaranteed.
