Vienna’s jazz scene thrives on unlikely combinations, and few are more engaging than vocalist Stephanie Semeniuc, pianist Larry Lofquist, and percussionist Fernando Paiva.

Stephanie Semeniuc – vocals

Born in Satu Mare, Romania, Stephanie Semeniuc is a Vienna-based jazz singer whose heritage spans Hungarian, Ukrainian, and American roots. Before discovering jazz, she cut her teeth as the frontwoman of the Transylvanian power-duo FunkYou! and the folk-jazz project Yesterdays. Now a student at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna (MUK), she has quickly become an integral part of the city’s jazz tapestry, winning accolades like the Grand Prize at the Jazz Napocensis Festival. Praised by trumpeter Markus Printup for her „unique“ and „black“ voice, she regularly performs with her band Kitzavi Tzalon.

Larry Lofquist (piano, composition)

An expatriate from Detroit, Michigan, Larry Lofquist is a seasoned pianist and composer with a rich history of solo work in New York and Rio de Janeiro. His sparse yet harmonically rich style has seen him accompany singers and share the stage with jazz greats like Bob Mover and Claudio Roditi. Beyond performing at top venues like Porgy & Bess in Vienna, Lofquist has composed extensively for ensembles and orchestra, including two operas.

Fernando Paiva da Silva (drums, percussion, vocals)

Fernando Paiva is an internationally active Brazilian musician, composer, arranger, percussionist, and producer with nearly four decades of professional experience across recording, live performance, education, and film. He has more than 250 recording and live performance credits spanning jazz, world music, contemporary music, and film productions. He has performed and recorded with international giants such as the Joe Zawinul Syndicate, Lionel Ritchie, Hermeto Pascoal, the Vienna Art Orchestra and Alegre Correa. Considered by critics to be one of the great Brazilian drummers of his time, Paiva is known for his unique fusion of Brazilian Jazz and World Music, often featuring percussive vocal and body percussion solos alongside his drumming
