NOISE TO SILENCE / A STORY OF RATS / BIRD PEOPLE / PLUMES (LIVE)
Noise To Silence:
Noise to Silence has been conceived in 2011 by Anna Nacher and Marek Styczynski (of Magic Carpathians Project fame) as a project to investigate real-time composition, especially the meditative qualities of overtones generated both acoustically (with prepared string instrument and daxophone as well as voice) and/or electronically (with home made analog sine wave generators and prepared guitar). The hummered santoor dulcimer is enhanced with self-made wooden daxophones, inspired by the work of the late Hans Reichel. The musicians aim at exploration of fluid and temporary electroacoustic soundscapes, built on overtone structures generated on the brink of acoustic and amplified phenomena. When analog sine waves generators are employed, the basic medium is electricity – overtones are translated into the minor changes in the electromagnetic field and the environment consists also of the technical equipment and frequencies of electric waves. http://magiccarpathians.com/noise-to-silence/ A Story of Rats:
The audio work of Garek Druss is a conduit that expands his interests in polyphonic tonality and listening as an active practice.
The work he creates investigates the poignant effects that audio can produce on preconceived time structures and the idea that listening is both an act of performance as well as participation. During his live performances, a minimal sound palette is utilized, both electronic and acoustic. It consists of synthesizers, prepared or altered electronics and intonations that create a transcendental sound-scape.
Besides his actions with A Story of Rats, he is also known for his work with the Seattle based duo Dull Knife, the Portland OR and Idaho based groups Atriarch, Tecumseh, and Mezektet. He is also one of the composers and performers for the Seattle based theater/ performance company Saint Genet. http://www.asor.bandcamp.com/
