Made In Babylon
Live: MRC Riddims (NYC)
Support: Melkeveien (Oslo)
“It has often been said the best music is made by people who find a void in the music world that they are passionate about and then fill that void. That is exactly how NYC, by way of Berlin´s MRC Riddims came to be. In 2009 ,Oktopus, long time producer/member of the Avant Hip-Hop group Dälek, was getting sent tracks from his old friend Merc formerly of the groups, If When and seminal shoegaze greats All Natural Lemon & Lime Flavors. “Nobody was against it, but no one was as excited about it as I was.” said Oktopus on what motivated the two to begin their three year, collaboration in Bass Music. The two quickly joined forces with this collaboration that is about to see it first formal release, after dropping 18 tracks on scattered releases.
The maturity of this venture can now be heard on the group´s latest release, Worldwide Hoods, which features four new tracks each with a stand out MC that gives demonstration to their dance floor ready, dub tinged, futuristic Hip Hop. While the two members roots laid in dense, noisy compositions – MRC´s sound is much more fun while also bringing a new depth of heaviness that their previous endeavors never achieved.
The record immediately calls out a playful yet dark tone with the track “Checks and Balances (feat.Ben Sharpa)” and is immediately followed with “Clothes Make The Man (feat. Subtitle)” which brings on the heaviness of today´s Dubstep sounds without stooping to any of the tired cliches of the genre. After the groups’ four original tracks, we are then presented with remixes of the tracks by the diverse lot of Niveau Zero, Dev79, Talen, Mesak, Patric Catani, Bazooka, and many more who show you what the MRC tracks would be like in the world of Skwee, Dubstep, Gabba, and other unclassifiable FUTURE BASS sounds.
Seeing a double LP release on NYC´s diverse Drug Front Records roster, Worldwide Hoods is waiting to show you a void in music that is now filled. ”
