Founded in 2006, the Graz based trio has recorded three studio albums, one split 7 inch single and lots of DIY-EPs. They have played over 250 shows in Europe as well as two US-tours.
The new record Graben opens a new chapter, as the band wanted to do things slightly different this time. This included working with producer Bernd Heinrauch, who records his bands at an old farm house. The album was mastered in London by Pete Maher. The collaboration for the artwork was changed for the first time in their career. Instead of long term collaborator and dear friend Mote Scherr, this time it was Kata Tüz who did the melancholic drawings for Graben. The record label was changed to the acclaimed Vienna based Wohnzimmer Records, ready to celebrate their 15th anniversary.
However, Hidden By The Grapes remain true to their style, and the following quote from “Heavy Pop” from 2012 still is the coreline of the band’s description: “Imagine if Dinosaur Jr. had tamed their guitar madness and instead discovered a collective lack of restraint like Sonic Youth, Steve Albini and Swans”. However, this lack of restraint never sounded so fine. With its unexpected twists and turns and heavy dynamics, Graben is a magnificent combination of intensity and catchiness.
