This very generic and enigmatic name hides the project of the belgian musician Chris joined by Najah (from Dolina) since 2011. :codes is active since ten years and have played numerous lives and contributed to various compilations on labels such as Kommando 6, Enfant Terrible, La Forme Lente and Pneu to name a few. In the beginning, the act was more into EBM and industrial but recently, it evolved to the minimal wave genre, always keeping a dirty mechanical sound and a pessimistic futuristic / science fiction vision.
This year they released “All the tragic heroines” on Falco Invernale records, a masterpiece of contemporary cold wave.

Minimal synth pop one-man band from France. This young composer brings us back to the essence of French New wave, in the way of the 50’s Nouvelle vague movies and the 80’s Jeunes gens modernes: nonconformism, commitment, and DIY spirit.
He makes songs about wasted grounds, social alienation and nocturnal conspiracies. Sometimes with anger, sometimes with black humour.. And always armed with raw analog synths mixed with the digital coldness of samples.
He released his first LP in begining 2013 on Spielzeug Muzak after numerous autoproductions and compilations appearances, among which the recent “Sand beach” on Electric Voice.
Let’s go for this night ballad through the city streets.

I/S uses variations of electricity to control oscillators and frequency modulations.
I/S likes to connect synths with drum machines and a to add lot of delays over it all, for confusion.
I/S can be described as synth-gaze, dark-wave or no-future pop.
I/S abuses of the technics of patterns, arpeggios, cadavre exquis, collage, and the art of masks.
I/S draws its inspiratrion in synth pop and surrealism.
I/S takes seriously the results of chance and magic in creation.
I/S has no artistic pretentions but has sexual intentions.
I/S has no fetishism for the old nor obsessions for the new.
I/S drops a little light on human emotions.

I/S stands for free minds.
After a 2 tracks contribution to the last compilation “Circuit d’actes” on La Forme Lente, their first LP “Undisciplined strips of Emotions” is coming out in november 2013 on Medical Records (
