The sun on your skin, your head in dark clouds, and your heart in a place you’d rather not revisit — that’s the sound of “Talvez,” the new single by Ão, a preview of their upcoming album set for release in early 2026, the follow-up to the widely acclaimed Ao Mar.

Brenda Corijn, Siebe Chau, Jolan Decaestecker, and Bert Peyffers continue along their singular path: a unique blend of saudade, alternative pop, Latin, and electronica sung in both Portuguese and English — now even more distilled, richer in production, deeper, and more physical.

“Talvez” — Portuguese for “maybe” — was born on the road, quite literally. After the band took a month-long break, they reunited while on tour in Slovenia. In the meantime, Brenda had sought refuge in Brazil.

“I told the others: I can only truly relax if I leave with the idea that I’m never coming back. When I emailed Siebe from there, he actually thought I wasn’t coming back at all.”

The charango — a fiery South American guitar — bathes the track in sunlight, but beneath the surface, something simmers. Talvez is a confrontation disguised as a summery melody: the story of someone who has fled from everything, and just when she thinks she’s finally gone for good, she runs into someone from her past. Someone who still knows her as she once was. And suddenly, she’s right back there — in that part of herself she tried so hard to escape.

“Talvez você se lembra da minha escuridão”“Maybe you only remember my darkness.”

You can’t escape who you’ve been, no matter how far you travel.
