In their music, Relatives blend the dissonant tonalities of 20th century music with the unadorned folk songs of Appalachia. Founding members Ian Davis and Katie Vogel live and breath in New York City where they perform regularly. In February 2011 their first full-length record The Relatives was released on Tokyo-based label Museum People Records. A self-produced EP Tardy Mark, soon followed. This September they will embark on their first European tour in an effort to promote a collection of new works for male voice, female voice, guitar and electronics.
“Relatives’ newest EP, Tardy Mark, has a very refreshing combination of creative song writing and rustic production.” – Corporeal Music, January 2012
“The things that they do with these voices, in their songs, is slippery and adventurous.” – Sean Moeller for Daytrotter, November 2011
“Freaky, committed, old-fashioned.” – Nico Muhly, November 2010
