Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells is perhaps the most unlikely smash hit record ever to be released. The beautiful and sprawling progressive Celtic-folk-rock opus shot to number one in album charts around the world during 1973 and 74, throwing its young composer into the international spotlight, and kick-starting Richard Branson’s Virgin empire.

Tubular Bells for Two is an ambitious project by multi-instrumentalists Daniel Holdsworth (The Saturns/The Maple Trail) and Aidan Roberts (The Maple Trail/Belles Will Ring), who have arranged the entirety of Tubular Bells for just two blokes.

In this enthralling and highly entertaining theatrical event, Holdsworth and Roberts frantically juggle over twenty instruments to bring this influential masterpiece to life. There’s pianos, organs, electric guitars, acoustic and spanish guitars, bass guitar, mandolin, tuned percussion, glockenspiel, drums, loop pedals, synthesizers, and, of course, tubular bells. The performance is intricately choreographed and rehearsed to present the work true to the original recording with all its multi-layered madness and subtle beauty intact.
